Our Research
For many medications, chemicals and other exposures, there are not enough studies in human pregnancy. As a result, not enough is known about whether or not these agents increase the risk of problems in the developing fetus. Finding out whether particular agents can cause problems will help prevent birth defects and developmental effects.
One of our goals at CTIS is to conduct research to evaluate potential risks to a fetus from certain types of exposures during pregnancy.
CTIS Pregnancy Outcome Study:
Pregnant women who call the service are asked if they would be willing to participate in our ongoing CTIS studies throughout their pregnancy and post-partum. Participation in CTIS studies adds much needed data on drug exposures in pregnancy. Participation in the studies may include:
- Free specialized pediatric examinations may be offered for infants/babies of women participating in CTIS’ follow-up program
- Free developmental testing may be offered for the child
For more information what participation may include, go to our Research page.
OTIS Research Projects:
In addition to our pregnancy follow-up program, CTIS is the coordinating center for OTIS’
